My data collection tools will be a pre/post test that students will take on a Chromebook to measure their reading proficiency. Students will take a google form survey that will result in quantitative data and qualitative data. All the data collection tools will be completed through a link in google classroom.

The outline of your research seems similar to mine. I will also be giving a pre/post-test but the difference is that mine will not be on a Chromebook but rather the traditional hand written test. One of my dilemmas was making sure that the pre/post-test was exactly the same, so I am wondering if yours is. Will you be using a rubric to measure their reading proficiency? Do you have any expectations with the possible results? I was planning on giving my students a survey as well but honestly it didn’t cross my mind to have students take a survey through google survey. I am going to have to borrow this idea! Will you be doing any other activities with your students between the assessments in order to measure any other behaviors the students might show during your action research? I am very intrigued to see your results as reading comprehension is something that I have been interested in exploring in a math class.

I am doing something similar but not with reading comprehension. Sam, I would definitely suggest using a rubric to measure their proficiency in addition to their pre/post test. In order to make sure both tests are similar is to keep the same type of question but just switch up what they are asking. Meaning the question is very much the same in structure but just differs on the content. That way you know that you are still giving very similar tests and that way the scores aren't different because they are different tests.
