A learner centered classroom means that the teacher along with the student decides which goals are needed to be met together. I like the idea of "co-determining" together which skills need to be met and how they will be met through evidence.

Very cool blog Paula! What really caught my attention was when you wrote about how year to year we have different students in our classroom. When I read this I thought about a couple of things. One was it seems like a really difficult task to balance (being a high school teacher) 5 classes with each having 32+ students and monitoring 160 goals or how do I create the culture in the class where it realistically speaking it seems like each class will have its own unique culture. And second, maybe this does bring balance “where flexible grouping needs to take place in the classroom as needs arise,” as you mentioned in your blog.

I also agree that that caught my attention. I feel like in this learning environment, you would build such a strong sense of community and then have to do it all over again next year. As Sam mentions with the the 5 classes each, it would be incredibly difficult to keep track of all the different levels each student is on. I feel like with elementary this could work so much better since you are with the same 30+ kid for a longer period of time so you really would get to know them

How do you think you might "co-determine" the skills to be met in your class? Are there any technology tools that might help with this? You are right to talk about students' taking pride in their work. What are some methods to build agency in our students?
